Podcasting

In 2022, I joined the Early Career Leadership Program at the Genetics Society of America (GSA). As part of my service to GSA, I served as a member (2022-2024), co-Chair (2024-2025), and now advisor (2026-2028) to the Multimedia committee, which runs the society’s podcast called Genetics in Your World. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience where I have had immense opportunity for professional development, leadership, and skill building in areas related to science communication, including podcast production, script writing, audio and script editing, interviewing, research, advertising, and networking.

Slated for academic year 2026-2027, I will launch a podcast all my own, called Reclamation, the podcast, that takes on the consequences of failures in mentoring, departmental responsibility, and professional ethics from individuals to institutions and societies, on the lives and livelihoods of early career scientists and trainees, particularly women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ scientists. These are difficult and necessary conversations, as these failures can run the gambit from delayed and lost careers in science to deadly abuse and long-term trauma. Reclamation, the podcast, will follow a series of professional essays published in professional science journals giving the background of my story and how abuse inflicted on my life and research impacted everyone in my life, from colleagues to family.
